COVID-19 forcing Jacksonville media to shut down travel to Jaguars’ games

One aspect of this COVID-19-impaired 2020 NFL season that doesn’t get talked about, which will significantly impact the Jaguars’ media coverage, is all teams prohibiting reporters’ access to the locker room. Being able to communicate to players or coaches only through video conference calls, the limitations are obvious. Reporters, columnists and electronic media will conduct only a fraction of the interviews that normally get done after games and during the week leading up to Sunday kickoff. Plus, lack of access means missing out on informal chats with players and coaches that help build media relationships. For the first time in Jaguars’ history, the Times-Union will not be sending a beat…

Escambia, Santa Rosa county sports teams travel different postseasons

Florida’s two most northwest counties are striking different paths to complete postseason competition in high school sports like volleyball, swimming and golf this fall. Santa Rosa County programs are expecting the option to opt in for a traditional district-regional-state postseason format by the FHSAA’s Sept. 18 State Series deadline.   Escambia County public schools, however, are expected to uniformly opt out, sacrificing FHSAA state tournament pursuits for an extended season and a shot at an inaugural, and perhaps only, county championship. “For all sports, the state gave us an option to extend the season, and that’s what we’ve done,” Escambia County athletic director Roger Mayo said. “We’ve given them the…

County: Molokai cases due to travel, families | News, Sports, Jobs

Travel and family spread are behind the recent string of COVID-19 cases on Molokai, according to county officials and the state Department of Health. Seven cases have been reported in late August and early September on Molokai, which prior to August had only seen two cases throughout the pandemic. “These are different variations of people who have traveled, people who had family over and have spent time on Molokai and other issues,” Mayor Michael Victorino said during a news conference Wednesday. According to the mayor, seven cases were currently active on Molokai. Victorino said he hadn’t heard of any businesses that had to close or cut services. “I think they…

82 games, in market, with fewer fans, reduced travel

The NBA bubble looks like a one-hit-wonder. While the NBA’s restart bubble in Orlando has worked and allowed games to take place, it’s not how the league wants to move forward. When the NBA returns next season — which is not happening before Christmas, and sources told NBC Sports is more likely to be in February — the goal is not to do it in a bubble format. Instead, the hope is to do it in-market, with reduced fans and reduced travel. To start to get things closer to a typical season. All that was told to teams through calls with owners on Thursday and GMs on Friday, reports Shams…

State Department lifts global ‘Do Not Travel’ advisory – Boston News, Weather, Sports

(CNN) — After more than four months, the US State Department on Thursday lifted its advisory warning US citizens against traveling abroad. The department issued the Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory — the highest level of travel advisory — on March 19, urging US citizens not to travel overseas due to the coronavirus pandemic.
