COVID-19 forcing Jacksonville media to shut down travel to Jaguars’ games

One aspect of this COVID-19-impaired 2020 NFL season that doesn’t get talked about, which will significantly impact the Jaguars’ media coverage, is all teams prohibiting reporters’ access to the locker room. Being able to communicate to players or coaches only through video conference calls, the limitations are obvious. Reporters, columnists and electronic media will conduct only a fraction of the interviews that normally get done after games and during the week leading up to Sunday kickoff. Plus, lack of access means missing out on informal chats with players and coaches that help build media relationships. For the first time in Jaguars’ history, the Times-Union will not be sending a beat…

Home improvement and remodeling jobs surge during COVID-19 pandemic

With more people staying at home in Arkansas, a need for home improvement specialists has risen. FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — With job losses and no income, buying a home doesn’t seem likely for many Arkansans during the COVID-19 pandemic. But, the business of repairing or remodeling homes is booming.  “Initially, in March and April, everyone was negatively affected, but over time I think larger businesses have gotten a little bit closer to normal.” Mervin Jebaraj, Director for Business and Economic Research University of Arkansas, said.  Arkansas is six months into the pandemic, and the local economy has taken a hit in the process.  Restaurants have seen a 35{09c3c849cf64d23af04bfef51e68a1f749678453f0f72e4bb3c75fcb14e04d49} decline in revenue…

How the COVID-19 pandemic sped up beauty and fashion trends

Given the chaos and uncertainty wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic, trying to pin down the top fashion and beauty trends of a year hence feels as futile as trying to pick a living room wallpaper pattern while your house is on fire. But we tried anyway by surveying a range of L.A.-based designers, brand builders and retailers to find out what the luxury landscape might look like 12 to 18 months down the road. The general consensus? Although no one — not even the trend analysts who make their living forecasting such things — is exactly sure what the future of fashion looks like, what they agreed on is that,…

Auto industry set to put brakes on central Europe’s COVID-19 recovery

BUDAPEST/PRAGUE (Reuters) – The auto industry, long a driver of economic growth in central Europe, is likely to be one of the main drags on the region’s efforts this year to recover from the impact of COVID-19. FILE PHOTO: Employees work on an assembly line as the Volkswagen construction plant reopens after shutting down due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in Bratislava, Slovakia April 28, 2020. REUTERS/Radovan Stoklasa/File Photo After communist rule ended in central Europe three decades ago, foreign carmakers invested heavily in a region that had a cheap and efficient workforce. The auto sector became an important source of foreign investment, employment and growth. But with car…

COVID-19 Cools Melrose Place Selfie and Shopping Scene – WWD

Used to be there was never an open parking spot on L.A.’s buzzy Melrose Place. Now there are so many, the valet stands aren’t even operating. On a recent morning, there was still a line for matcha lattes at Alfred Coffee, but it was mostly Postmates, and a mother-daughter team was taking Instagram glamour shots — in front of a storefront vacated after Bldwn filed for bankruptcy in March. For years, the walkable leafy thoroughfare has been second only to Rodeo Drive as the epicenter of high-end fashion and retail in Los Angeles. The name Melrose Place has become such a mythic SoCal locale (like Malibu) that it was recently…
