Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora has tested positive for COVID-19, the team announced. He did not manage Thursday afternoon’s series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays (TOR 3, BOS 2) and will not travel with the team for their road series against the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend. Bench coach Will Venable is serving as acting manager.

Cora, 46, is fully vaccinated and boosted, the Red Sox say, and he is dealing with mild symptoms. Under this season’s protocols, only symptomatic individuals are tested, and Cora must test negative twice before he can rejoin the team.
