Stoughton captures seventh Travel League event | News, Sports, Jobs


VARYSBURG — Wayne Stoughton shot the low round of 80 at Byrncliff Golf Resort to earn his seventh Wednesday Travel League tour victory of the season.

Dave Criscione was runner-up with 82 while Al Etzel and Mike Wolfe tied for third place with 85s. Criscione led the front nine with a 40 and Stoughton led the back nine with a 38.

Other flight winners were John Waterman (B Flight), Pete Gawron (C Flight) and Don Kujawa (D Flight). The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Bob Kujawa.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Dave Franklin (No. 1), Stoughton (Nos. 5, 13), Wolfe (No. 10), Jeff Rich (No. 15), Etzel (No. 16) and Tim Siragusa (No. 18); B Flight — John Waterman (No. 2), Josh Hilliker (Nos. 3, 16), John Bongiovanni Jr. (Nos. 5, 12), Dave Momberger (Nos. 6, 7), Ken Kaus (No. 8), Dan Waterman Jr. (No. 13) and Dave Wallace (No. 18); C Flight — Gary Haase (Nos. 6, 16), Gawron (No. 7), Tim Walawender (No. 14) and Tony Destro (No. 17); D Flight — Bill Aldrich (Nos. 3, 14), Mick Dunning Sr. (No. 5), John Tofil (No. 7), Brian Lore (No. 11) and Don Kujawa (No. 12).

Closest to the pin were Etzel (Nos. 4, 16), Wolfe (No. 8) and Criscione (No. 12). Top point winners were Etzel (72), Hilliker (45), Bongiovanni (41) and Kaus (36). Season points leaders: 1.
