Chelsea agree deal to sign Benfica winger Diego Moreira on free transfer

Chelsea have finalised a deal for signing Benfica winger Diego Moreira this summer, according to reports in Portugal.

The 18-year-old’s contract with the Portuguese club ends at the end of the season and he has elected not to renew his deal.

According to Record, Chelsea have now moved in and have secured an agreement to sign Moreira after his contract with Benfica expires.

The report suggests that Chelsea have beaten opposition from Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan.

Moreira made his senior debut for Benfica last year but has yet to earn a first-team appearance this season and has been a regular for the club’s B squad.

At international level, Moreira was born in Belgium but has represented Portugal Under-16s and Under-18s.

The 18-year-old will face a tough task of getting into Chelsea’s first-team squad this summer, given the quantity of attacking players already at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino is favored to become Chelsea’s next permanent manager after Julian Nagelsmann pulled out of the running this week.

The 35-year-old, who was sacked by Bayern Munich last month, has held talks with Chelsea’s hierarchy but is now looking at other possibilities, including the potential of joining Tottenham.
